Steady On - PICU Update # 6

     Over the past 36 hours or so we've seen slow but steady progress in the right direction. After our alarm two nights ago, the positive trend in Ethen's lung health has eased some of our anxiety. The medical team has weaned Ethen's oxygen requirement and slightly decreased the pressure from the oscillator. The therapists are intermittently tweaking the pump settings to get Ethen closer to a place where the regular ventilator will meet his support needs.
     Please continue to pray that Ethen's lungs dry out. Pray the congestion breaks up and clears out. Another concern has been bloody urine. It's not as concerning as you would think, but the medical team is keeping an eye on it. They think it is from Ethen's catheter irritating his epithelial cells in his urethra (or possibly bladder), but it can also be a side effect of Accutane, which we started yesterday. Pray that this resolves (urine tests indicate there is no infection). Pray that our hearts rest. Pray that we don't watch the numbers on the monitors, but that we trust the Lord.
