Half a Day at a Time

The day began in a minor key when we met with the medical team who expressed concern about Ethen's hemoglobin level and continued fluid retention. Because of his declining hemoglobin level and fluid retention, the team spoke about doing a CT scan to determine whether or not Ethen was bleeding from his tumor into his abdomen. This has been a concern because of his low hemoglobin level over the course of the week in spite of a couple blood transfusions. Otherwise, Ethen's blood counts are fairly good (platelets have maintained at a good level), though he still needs to improve on his calcium level.
The morning news set us on edge because of the possibility of throwing Ethen's fluid situation totally off by doing the CT scan (requiring a contrast solution that would affect his kidneys, no doubt leading to a new fluid management schedule). Our anxiety was quelled by the afternoon news that Ethen's hemoglobin had actually risen by itself. He's also continued to eliminate excess fluid. Pray this favorable condition continues and would improve more over night. His breathing is also fairly congested so please pray this will clear up.
In spite of today's anxieties, we have been reminded at different points today that this is Good Friday. We know that Jesus Christ can sympathize with us because he was tested in his life yet did not sin; he humbled himself to the point of death—even death on a cross—without sin. We trust that he is a merciful and faithful high priest because he knows our frame and has gone before us.

He is such a strong little warrior, and you all are helping wrap him in God's armor. I will continue prayers, may Easter morning be a day of blessings!
